Post-frenectomy care is one of the most debated aspects of infant tongue-tie management. While frenectomy may be an important intervention for some infants with tethered oral tissues, families and clinicians are often left navigating uncertainty about what comes next: how to support healing, reduce stress and discomfort, protect feeding progress, and recognize when additional help is needed.

This course explores the lactation professional’s role in supporting infants and families after frenectomy through a functional, compassionate, and individualized lens. We will discuss neonatal pain, stress physiology, wound healing considerations, and the practical realities families face during the post-procedure period. Because feeding is movement, we will also examine how oral function, feeding skills, and body-wide regulation influence recovery and outcomes.
